I am 37 years old, born and raised in Miami, Florida which is where I currently reside. I have two children, a 5 year old boy and an 8 month old daughter. I grew up in a bilingual home because my family is from Cuba. I have my BA in International Business and have my MS in Psychology. I have been teaching for about 6 years. Before having my children, I traveled a lot and worked and lived in different places. After graduating from college, I went to teach ESL to children in Thailand and China. After returning to the states, I got certified to teach ESL/Spanish for K-12 as well as all the four core subjects for K-6. I was the 7th and 8th grade ESL teacher for two years and the 8th grade Spanish teacher for two years at a public school in Texas and the K-8 Spanish teacher for two years a private school here in Florida. My most recent job was as the 2nd grade ELA/Social Sciences teacher for a charter school. I currently tutor both children and adults in various subjects. My style of teaching is to use a lot of visuals, color coding, graphic organizers, and manipulatives. I feel that my students learn best in pairs or small groups, but I have had many students in my classes that need individualized instruction so I have experience modifying/accommodating content for different levels of students. During the time I am not teaching, I love to run, play tennis, read books, watch crime shows, and write stories. And of course spend time with my children.
